May Update

05/21/2021

It’s been a minute since I’ve updated my blog. Crazy to think the year is almost half-way over already as it’s gone by so fast.

Not too much has changed. I’m still working hard on Skeleton Cave, trying to learn new things, and keep myself healthy and busy. Skeleton Cave is coming along. Slower than I’d like, but its a large undertaking for one person. I’m doing my best given the circumstances.

I really hope to have it out by the end of the year. I’m ready for the world to play it and I’m ready to be done with it! I say it like it’s a bad thing, but it isn’t. I’m just ready to make new things and I want to see people enjoy it.

Aside from working on Skeleton Cave, I’ve been experimenting with coding my own game completely from scratch. Okay, that’s not 100% true. I am using Monogame, but all of the game’s logic is on me this time. It’s interesting to finally start putting together just how a game is pieced together. My code is sloppy, but it works! So far I just have the extreme basics down but I’m looking forward to adding to it every now and then.

So far I’ve designed a method for drawing tilemaps and am handling collisions. More on that later!

Certs

I’ve been thinking for a while. Maybe it’s time to get more certs. I have my Security+ but I don’t really feel like anybody much cares about that these days. I even get questioned about what it even is sometimes. I’ve fallen in love with Linux again this year and would like to work in it. I’m kind of considering looking into pen testing. It’d be fun to rack my brain and attempt to hack into servers all day.

And that’s about it. I don’t have much more to add currently. Just trying to get through 2021 and get my game out the door. Hopefully I’ll have some better updates here soon.
